About this Blog

During the semester, I shall post course material and students will comment on it. Students are also free to comment on any aspect of American politics, either current or historical. There are only two major limitations: no coarse language, and no derogatory comments about people at the Claremont Colleges. This blog is on the open Internet, so post nothing that you would not want a potential employer to see. Syllabus: http://gov20h.blogspot.com/2023/08/draft-introduction-to-american-politics.html

The Weirdest Election Ever

 MMC Athenaeum, October 29

We never had a president who lost the popular vote by so much (2.9 million votes in 2016).

We never had a president this consistently unpopular.

We never had an impeached president running for reelection.

We never had a presidential election during a pandemic of this scope.

We have never had an election with so many early votes:  as of this afternoon, 80.7 Americans had already cast a ballot, equal to 58.6 percent of the total 2016 tally.

So where do things stand?
