About this Blog

During the semester, I shall post course material and students will comment on it. Students are also free to comment on any aspect of American politics, either current or historical. There are only two major limitations: no coarse language, and no derogatory comments about people at the Claremont Colleges. This blog is on the open Internet, so post nothing that you would not want a potential employer to see. Syllabus: http://gov20h.blogspot.com/2023/08/draft-introduction-to-american-politics.html

An interesting take on this year's election and Lindsey Graham's race

I stumbled across a very humorous take on this year's election on TikTok today. I thought you guys would enjoy this.

On a more serious note, Senator Lindsey Graham's seat is looking like a tossup this year. He's a Republican Senator from South Carolina, who has been representing SC since 2003. This year, though, his Democratic, progressive challenger Jaime Harrison has been pulling in astonishing amounts of fundraising money.  Graham himself has been expressing his concerns about his election:

"'I’m getting overwhelmed,' Graham told conservative talk-show host Sean Hannity. 'LindseyGraham.com. Help me. They’re killing me, money-wise. Help me. You helped me last week — help me again. LindseyGraham.com.'"

Some recent polling shows that Harrison is essentially tied with Graham, which is surprising given that he won a fairly large margin in 2014.
