President Trump just rolled back the WOTUS (Waters of the United States) ruling, redefining what is under federal control and what is under state control.

Alaska Senators Murkowski and Sullivan are pretty excited about this change; they believe it will help restore power back to the state and local landowners. However, this policy also received lashback as some senators believe that it will allow polluters more free reign.

This article reminded me of some local news that came out a while back: https://www.adn.com/features/alaska-life/2017/04/22/the-curious-popularity-of-a-water-pipe-on-the-seward-highway/
Basically, there's this pipe on the Seward highway (which runs across the coastline), and people go there to drink water and fill up water to store. Most people due it for the novelty, but some people actually get the majority of their drinking water from there because they don't trust the government, and they think that the federal government is removing healthy nutrients from the water and replacing it with fluoride. There was also someone running for a state house seat this year who firmly advocated against fluoride in the water.

About this Blog
During the semester, I shall post course material and students will comment on it. Students are also free to comment on any aspect of American politics, either current or historical. There are only two major limitations: no coarse language, and no derogatory comments about people at the Claremont Colleges. This blog is on the open Internet, so post nothing that you would not want a potential employer to see. Syllabus: http://gov20h.blogspot.com/2023/08/draft-introduction-to-american-politics.html
