I was listening to the latest episode of Pod Save America earlier today (Episode #195, "A little hiccup"), where the Pod hosted Mark Leibovich of The New York Times. Leibovich's segment reminded me of our class discussion regarding Trump's interactions with the NFL and his comments towards the act of players kneeling during the national anthem. Leibovich talked at length of the overlap between the demographics of the "Trump belt" and "football belt", as well as of the longstanding (and sometimes contentious) relationship between Trump and many of the football team managers. Though the episode is worth listening to in full, the interview with Leibovich begins a little past the 58-minute mark.
You can listen to the episode here, or on Spotify/iTunes/Stitcher.

About this Blog
During the semester, I shall post course material and students will comment on it. Students are also free to comment on any aspect of American politics, either current or historical. There are only two major limitations: no coarse language, and no derogatory comments about people at the Claremont Colleges. This blog is on the open Internet, so post nothing that you would not want a potential employer to see. Syllabus: http://gov20h.blogspot.com/2023/08/draft-introduction-to-american-politics.html
