About this Blog

During the semester, I shall post course material and students will comment on it. Students are also free to comment on any aspect of American politics, either current or historical. There are only two major limitations: no coarse language, and no derogatory comments about people at the Claremont Colleges. This blog is on the open Internet, so post nothing that you would not want a potential employer to see. Syllabus: http://gov20h.blogspot.com/2023/08/draft-introduction-to-american-politics.html

Article V Convention

https://www.economist.com/news/briefing/21729735-if-it-did-would-be-dangerous-thing-america-might-see-new-constitutional-convention

Interesting read discussing the likelihood of a convention for the revision of Article V of the Constitution. Would the convention dishonor the intentions of the Founding Fathers? As Greve mentions, "Amendments should be hard to enact... the Constitution is rigid for the same reason that it is written and minimalist: it is supposed to last." Or are these discussions healthy for our democracy?
